One of the things we believe wholeheartedly is that making time for therapy should not make your life more stressful! Just getting out of the house to get to your appointment can be an anxiety provoking ordeal for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you have a physical challenge or illness that makes it difficult for you to attend in-person sessions, or your work schedule makes it impossible to drive to a session. Or you're a new mom and would love to meet with your therapist while the baby is napping in the next room. Maybe you have a session scheduled on a snowy day and you can’t travel, but you don't want to miss your appointment. If you're struggling with anxiety and stress and you'd rather meet in the comfort of your own space rather than coming into an office, virtual counseling might be a great option for you.
Teletherapy simply means a therapy session that is conducted online using video technology, and feels much like a Facetime chat (but it’s HIPAA-compliant). Using a secure platform and two-way video, you’ll meet with your therapist just like you would in the office, only from the convenience of your couch. You’ll need to verify your identity if we haven’t met with you before, so have your drivers license or other ID handy.
For our easy to use platform, you need a desktop computer, laptop or smart phone. There’s even an app for your iPad or phone (download Telehealth by Simple Practice for iOS or Android). You may want to use earbuds to improve your audio experience, but as long as your device has a camera and speakers, you’re good to go!
No problem. Our platform is super easy to use, and your therapist will walk you through it.
Teletherapy can feel super awkward at first, but in no time at all, it becomes more natural. If you prefer in-person sessions, your therapist will do their best to find a time that works for you!
Your therapist will attempt to reconnect with you. In the unlikely event that this doesn’t work, your therapist will call you and complete your session over the phone.
Absolutely not! We take your privacy seriously, whether you’re in the office or in your home.
Most insurances cover teletherapy. Before beginning, we will check your benefits to make sure teletherapy is covered on your specific plan. If not, we are happy to work with you on an affordable sliding scale basis.
